25-JANUARY-2010 MURAD MUHAMED ALIYAN 38 YEARS
PARTIAL SPINAL CORD INJURY AT C5-7 AFTER FALLING DOWN 1990 WITH FRACTURE OF C5.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the
clinic 16-October-2001 complaining of limping
when walking with quadriparesis and hypalgesia
below C4 both sides. The patient after falling
down 07-January-1990 got fracture C5 with
quadriplegia below this level and decompression
and fusion was performed at that time. The
patient was advised to undergo conservative
treatment and to be reevaluated after one month.
The patient then came
17-November-2001 and the sensory deficits
disappeared and he had the power of the right
hand grip 3/5 and extension 2/5 and triceps 3/5.
The power of the right quadriceps was 3/5.
adduction of the knee 4/5, abduction 3/5 and
dorsi and planterflexion of the foot 3/5. The
patient still limping but feeling better.
The patient consulted me to try
stem-cell therapy and I told him to try this
kind of therapy and he travelled to Germany to
The XCell-Center, Eduardus Hospital,
Custodisstraße 3-17, 50679 Cologne 3months ago
and underwent treatment.
The patient then came to me for reevaluation and
it was noticed that some deterioration of his
power of the upper limbs took place: The biceps
became 4/5 and the grip of the right hand became
1-2/5 and the triceps 2/5. There is some
improvement of the quadriceps 4/5 and adduction
of the knee 5/5, but deterioration of the
planterflexion right foot 2/3.
MRI performed
17-January-2010 showing the same picture of the
spinal cord with malacia extending from C3 down
to C6 without any morphological changes in
comparison to many MRIs performed previously.
The patient is still limping and
he claims that he got some improvement with gait
and the right hand became less spastic. The
patient is receiving Lyrica and Liorezal and
using drop foot brace for the right foot.
Comments
Stem cell therapy is still in the
early stages and it cannot be that mode of magic
that will heal all the pathologies as the
centers claim. This is an example, that the
patient actually regained nothing except that he
got the drop foot brace, which improved his
gait.
It is early to to decide that
stem cell therapy can resolve the problem of
complete paraplegia and the trading with partial
spinal cord injury can be misleading.
