ADEL ALI AL-KHATEEB 58 YEARS SEVERE CERVICAL CANAL STENOSIS C5-6. C6-7
WITH RADICULO-MYELOPATHIC SYNDROME.
Anamnesis
The
patient came to the clinic
25-February-2012 complaining of four limbs
numbness for one year with pain. The patient
suffering from neck pain for 15 years. The
patient has arterial hypertension for 4 years.
On
examination, the patient has pain when turning
the head to the right and to the left. There is
weak grip and extension of the right hand 4/5
and the right triceps muscle 4/5. Hypalgesia
right median nerve territory. Weak dorsiflexion
right foot 4/5.
The patient was sent for MRI of the cervical and
lumbar spine, which were
done 28-February-2012 showing severe stenosis
C5-6, C6-7 levels with malacia of the spinal
cord.
Decompressive laminectomy C4-5-6 and partial of
C7. The upper half of C7 was drilled out, so as
to keep the spinous process and eliminate the
compressive elements. There was no epidural fat
at the decompressed area.
Routine
closure of the wound. Smooth postoperative
recovery. The power of the right upper limb and feet became normal.

Comments
The patient has severe
stenosis of the cervical spine with malacia of
the spinal cord. The sooner the surgical
decompression the better the outcome.
