27-OCTOBER-2007 AHMAD ABDEL-SALAM AL-QAYSI 34 YEARS EXTRUDED DISC L5-S1 WITH
LEFT UPWARD MIGRATION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 24-October-2007
complaining of LBP with left sciatica for 7
months with exacerbation the last month. MRI
performed 17-October-2007 showed extruded disc
L5-S1 with left upward migration and bulge L4-5.
On examination: SLRS was 20 degrees in the left
with weak dorsi and planterflexion left foot and
numbness of the 4th and 5th toes left foot.
Left L5-S1 hemiflavotomy with exposure of the
extruded disc lateral to the axilla. It was
rubbery hard and it was removed in piece-meal
fashion. The disc space was very narrow and
intradiscal cleaning was performed from the left
side. Routine closure of the wound after
epidural fat transfer to the root.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
Comments
The recurrence rate is expected to be low
in this case, since the disc space was very narrow.
