23-NOVEMBER-2013 ALAA SHAKER AL-ASSAL 45 YEARS
CENTRAL EXTRUDED DISC L5-S1 WITH LEFT S1 ROOT COMPRESSION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 17-November-2013
complaining of LBP for 6 years with left
sciatica for 1 month with urgency and frequency.
MRI lumbar spine done 20-October-2013 showing
central extruded disc L5-S1 with left S1 root
compression.
On examination is not limping now. SLRS was 80
degrees both sides with tightness. The left AJ
is absent in the left. There is weak
dorsiflexion left foot -4/5.
Bilateral foraminotomy both
S1 roots was achieved. The extruded disc was
removed from the left, then from the right.
Bilateral cleaning of the disc space of L5-S1
was performed.
Smooth postoperative
recovery. The power of the left foot became
normal.
Comments
The patient still has an estimated postoperative
recurrence around 7%, because the disc space is
still not shallow.
