EXTRUDED DISC L5-S1 WITH RIGHT FORAMINAL OCCLUSION.
Anamnesis
The patient, the daughter of our anaesthesia
specialist, came to the operating room,
complaining of LBP with right sciatica
for one month with agonizing pain. MRI lumbar
spine done 1 week ago showing huge extruded disc
L5-S1 with right downward migration.
On examination at the operating table; The
patient has weak dorsiflexion right foot 4/5.
Using image-intensifier, the L5-S1 level was
identified. Using MICRODISCXS system with VITOM,
right S1 foraminotomy was done and the extruded
disc was removed in several pieces. Right sided
cleaning L5-S1 disc space. Routine closure of
the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The power of
right foot became normal.
Comments
The estimated postoperative recurrence is
still around 7%, because the disc space is still not
shallow.
