VERY HUGE EXTRUDED DISC C6-7 WITH MALACIA OF THE SPINAL CORD.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 16-July-2017
complaining of neck and both upper limbs pain
with right sciatica for 3 weeks. The patient
underwent splenectomy 36 years ago due to
trauma.
On examination, the patient has a nodular mass
in the right thyroid area. There is weak grip,
extension, both hands, both triceps 4/5. There
is weak dorsiflexion right foot 3/5, left foot
4/5.
The patient was sent for investigations and
MRI
cervical spine showing very huge extruded disc
C6-7 with malacia of the spinal cord.
Discectomy of C6-7 with
removal of the wide based extrusion until the
dura was seen posterior to the posterior edge of
C6 and C7 bodies. CSF was coming out from
unknown source, for a piece of muscle was
applied over the thin dura and a cage
ON PLUS (EOS CERVICAL BLADED CAGES 13X17 N6 was
inserted to the disc space and fixed. All
stages of surgery were guided with C-arm.
Routine closure of the
wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The power of
four limbs normalized and she was sent to the ward.
Comments
The patient has radiculo-myelopathic
syndrome due to spinal cord compression. Surgical
decompression and insertion of bladed cages was a necessity.
Skyra MRI with all clinical applications in the run since 28-Novemeber-2013.
