EXTRADURAL OSTEOMA COMPRESSING THE SPINAL CORD AT D1.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 21-June-2003
complaining of neck pain for 10 years with
numbness both hands for 3 years.
On examination, the patient has neck pain upon
moving the head to all directions. There is weak
left triceps muscle 3/5 with hypalgesia little
finger right hand.
The patient was sent for investigation and MRI
of the cervical spine performed 05-July-2003
showing bulge C4-5 more to the left, bulge C3-4
and a mass compressing the spinal cord from
behind at D1 level. EMG confirmed presence of
CTS more the right side. MRI dorsal spine
repeated 11-July-2003 confirming the above
mentioned data.
In prone position
decompressive laminectomy D1 and part of C7 and
D2. The mass was removed and sent for biopsy. It
proved to be chondroma. Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
She was sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
The patient
came 28-July- 2003 with clean wound and the
power of the left triceps muscle became normal.
Comments
Sympathectomy can resolve
sympathetically mediated pain. It has its role in
spine surgery.
