EXTRUSION.
Anamnesis
The patient was transferred from another
hospital directly to the operating room with
agonizing neck and left shoulder pain with weak
grip, extension of the left hand the weak biceps
and triceps of the left upper limb.
Her
complains started 10 days ago. Beside pain, she
had numbness of the median distribution of the
left hand more at the thumb.
MRI performed showing huge disc C5-6 with left
foraminal extrusion, compressing the root and
the spinal cord.
Anterior C5-6 discectomy was performed and
removal of the extrusion from the left side and
inspection of the foramen for remnants of the
disc material was performed.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
Comments
There is no recurrence in cervical disc
surgery, since all the disc material can be removed and
Leuscko intradiscal joints can compensate for stability.
After performing simple surgery for one level
cervical discectomy, there is no need for fusion and fixation.
