The patient came to the clinic 19-August-2003 complaining of LBP for 6 years with bilateral sciatica with numbness both feet more the right. Using crutches for 2 years. He cannot walk more than 10 meters and his condition is deteriorating. MRI lumbar spine done 07-July-2003 showing lumbar canal stenosis with bulge at L4-5 level.

On examination, the patient is limping with exaggerated scoliotic stance. Walking with help of crutches. SLRS was 80 degrees both sides without pain. There is weak dorsi and planterflexion both feet 3/5 with hypalgesia left S1 root.

Decompressive laminectomy L4-5 with foraminotomy both L5 roots. Inspection of the disc from both sides gave the impression not to violate it. The patient was put in Reverse Trendelenburg position with Valsalva maneuver and hyperventilation. No CSF leak. Routine closure of the wound.

Smooth postoperative recovery. The patient showed improvement of the power of his feet. He was sent to the ward.

The patient came to the clinic 03-September-2003 with clean wound. SLRS was 85 degrees without pain with no motor nor sensory deficit. He is telling that there is numbness both L5 roots.

The patient over the years came several times and performed total knee replacement both knees 20 months ago  and MRI performed 19-March-2009 showing discitis of L4-5. He was treated conservatively and the last time came 19-August-2009 with subsidence of infection.

There is no relation between the surgery and discitis, which took place after 6 years.
