HUGE EXTRUDED DISC C5-6.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 02-June-2002
complaining of neck pain for 14 months with left
shoulder pain. MRI cervical
spine performed 29-December-2001 showing huge
extruded disc C5-6 with left foraminal
occlusion.
On examination: The patient has neck pain when
rotating the head to all directions.
There is weak grip, extensors left hand and left
triceps muscle with hypalgesia left ulnar
distribution and medial aspect of the left upper
limb.
The patient was sent for investigations and MRI
cervical spine repeated 08-June-2002 showed the
same extrusion.
Through anterior approach, the level of C5-6 was
identified with C-arm. Discectomy of C5-6 with
removal of the extrusion, until the dura was
seen at the depth of the removed disc cavity. Routine
closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
The power of the left upper limb normalized.
He was sent to the ward.
Follow Up
The patient came to the clinic 26-June-2002 with
clean wound and normal power left upper limb.
The patient then came 27-September-2002 telling
that after lifting heavy object got pain both
shoulders with numbness left shoulder. He was
treated conservatively.
The patient then came 27-June-2004 with cervical
X-ray, showing good alignment of the cervical
spine and he was asked to perform MRI cervical
spine, but he escaped.
