AL-BLEWI67 YEARS SEVERE POST-TRAUMATIC COMPRESSION OF C2-3 AFTER PROGRESSIVE
CALLUS FORMATION.
Anamnesis
The patient a Saudi citizen, came to the
clinic 30-July-2004 complaining of neck pain
for 5 years with right upper and lower limb pain
and weakness after suffering RTA 5 years ago. MRI cervical spine
done 28-July-2004 showing severe spinal cord
compression at the level of C2-3 due to
hyperostosis and callus formation and enlarged
right C2-3 facet compressing the spinal cord.
On examination, the patient
in agonizing pain, having neck pain when turning
the head to all directions, more to the right. There is severe weak
all muscles right upper limb and right lower
limb, that preventing him walk normally. There is
hemihypalgesia below the right Jaw.
Through posterior approach,
laminectomy of C2 and C3 with drilling all the
compressive elements until the dura became lax
and free. Routine closure
of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The power of the
right upper limb dramatically improved and the
lower limb to less extent.
FOLLOW UP
The patient
came to the clinic 12-August-2004 with clean wound
and neurologically free.
Comments
Post-traumatic callus formation with pseudojoint
hypertrophy is a rare condition in this area.
It could be that the patient has an anomaly
before the accident and triggered by it.
