76 YEARS PROGRESSING NORMAL PRESSURE HYDROCEPHALUS.
Anamnesis
The patient was admitted to Shmaisani hospital
06-December-2014 with complains of inability to
walk for 1 month with unstable gait and urgency
and frequency and memory disturbances. The
patient was seen by me 2003 and treated
conservatively with hints of normal pressure
hydrocephalus.
On examination, the patient has tetraparesis
with preserved sensation.
The patient was sent MRI of the whole CNS and
the MRI of the brain showed dramatic enlargement
of the ventricular system with subependymal
changes indicating considerable progression in
relation with the previous MRI performed 2003.
The patient has morphologic MRI data hinting for
supranuclear palsy with amyloid vasculopthy. The
relatives were informed that the patient has
several problems and shunting will help with
certain manifestations related with the NPH.
Medtronic medium pressure adult type was
inserted from the right side.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
The power of the four limbs became normal
immediately after surgery.
Comments
The patient has multiple brain
pathologies among them the normal pressure hydrocephalus
with progressive course. Time will show the effect of the
shunting procedure.
