12-DECEMBER-2007 MURAD BASHEER AL-NOBANI 35 YEARS EXTRUDED DISC C6-7 WITH
RIGHT FORAMINAL COMPRESSION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 11-December-2007
complaining of right shoulder pain for 5 years,
which was triggered by chiropractics' maneuver
and became severe 3 months ago with numbness of
the second and middle fingers right hand. MRI
done 31-October-2007 showed an extruded disc
C6-7 with right foraminal occlusion.
The patient had limitation with painful movement
to all directions more, when looking to right
and downward. There is weak grip right hand 4/5
and extension 3/4 and left triceps 3/5.
Sensation was preserved but numb index and
middle finger right hand.
Using image-intensifier and Gardner-Well tongs
anterior approach with discectomy of C6-7 was
done. The extrusion was adherent to the dura,
which was separated and check for the foramen
for remnants of the disc was performed.
Routine closure of the wound and smooth
postoperative recovery.
Comments
The patient has extruded disc with weak
muscles and agonizing pain. Discectomy was the only solution
in such a case.
The recurrence rate after cervical discectomy
is zero.
