ABDEL-SATAR ABDEEN 38 YEARS UNSTABLE BURST FRACTURE L1 WITH
COMPRESSION.
Anamnesis
The patient felt down
04-December-2003 and got burst fracture L1 with bony
compression to the spinal cord. CT-scan and MRI done
showing unstable fracture L1 with bony compression
of the spinal cord.
On examination, the patient in
bed with Foley's catheter, but neurologically free.
Skeletonization of L3,2,1,D12 and
D11 with preservation of the intraspinous ligaments.
Using Harrington rods, distraction, reduction and
fusion of the mentioned area was achieved aided with
sublaminar wires to D11.
Smooth postoperative recovery and
the patient ambulated the next day.
FOLLOW UP
The patient came to the clinic 17-December-2003
with clean wound and neurologically free. SLRS
was 80 degrees without pain.
The patient came 25-January-2004 with new X-rays
showing good reduction of the bone and good
alignment of the construct.
The patient then came 26-July-2005 with the
upper part of the right rod is flail and advised
for removal.
Comments
The Harrington rods are good, but they are
intended for temporary insertion, to be removed
after 8-10 months.
Skyra MRI with all clinical applications in the run since 28-Novemeber-2013.
Inomed Riechert-Mundinger System, with three point
fixation is the most accurate system in the market. The microdrive and
its sensor gives feed back about the localization.
