AL-SAYYEGH 54 YEARS LCS L4-5 WITH LEFT LATERAL RECESS
SYNDROME AND PLD L4-5.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 24-August-2004
complaining of LBP for 4 years with
exacerbation of LBP and left sciatica last 2
months down to
S1 territory. The patient is a known
hypertensive for 10 years, varicous veins both
legs and underwent cath 7 years ago which was
normal.
On examination: She is limping with exaggerated scoliotic stance. SLRS was
50 degrees left side
with pain.
There was weak dorsiflexion left foot 3/5.
The patient was sent for investigation and MRI
lumbar spine performed showing severe lumbar
canal stenosis L4-5 with left lateral recess
syndrome. The patient was sent for cardio evaluation and
Lab tests and cath done 10-November-2004 was
normal.
Decompressive laminectomy L4 and
upper half of L5 with foraminotomy both L5 roots was
achieved. Routine closure of the
wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The power of
left foot became normal. She was sciatica free.
She was sent to the ward.
Follow Up
The patient came to the clinic 06-January-2005
with no sciatica and no senso-motor deficit.
Comments
There is still an estimated postoperative
recurrence around 7%, because the disc space height is not
shallow.
