16-JUNE-2014 NARIMAN TAHER ATTA-ALLA 42 YEARS
EXTRUDED DISC C5-6 WITH LEFT FORAMINAL OCCLUSION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 31-May-2014
complaining of neck and left upper limb pain for
5 months with exacerbation last week with
numbness of the thumb left hand. MRI cervical
spine done 26-May-2014 showing extruded disc
C5-6 with left foraminal occlusion.
On examination; The patient has pain when
looking up and down and bending the head to the
right shoulder. There is weak grip left hand
-4/5, extension of the fingers 3/5 and left
triceps muscle -3/5. The patient has irritable
colon and cannot tolerate most of
non-steroidals. MRI cervical spine repeated
10-June-2014 showing the same extrusion.
Using the C-arm, the C5-6 level identified.
Discectomy C5-6 with special attention to the
left side to remove all inside extrusion.
Samarys cervical cage 17x13x6 mm inserted to the
disc space. Trestle cervical plate 16 (22 mm)
length was used with 4 fixed screws to achieve
fusion C5-6. All stages were done with C-arm
control. Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The power of the
left upper limb became normal.
Comments
The patient has extrusion for several
months without improvement. Surgical solution is the
appropriate one.
