07-JUNE-2007 SALAH HASAN KHALEEL 39 YEARS PCD C5-6 WITH
FORAMINAL EXTRUSION LEFT SIDE.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 06-June-2007
complaining of severe neck and left upper limb
pain for the last 6 days.
MRI of the cervical spine performed 04-June-2007
showing huge foraminal extrusion of the C5-6
left side.
On examination: the left hand flexion and
extension is 4/5 with weak left triceps muscle.
Sensation was preserved for pin-brick, but he
complained of numbness of the I-II fingers left
hand. He was unable to sleep due to pain and he
was receiving a lot of pain-killers.
Discectomy of C5-6 was performed and the
extruded disc was removed. Smooth postoperative
recovery and normalization of the power of the
left upper limb.
Comments
The patient is in agonizing pain and with
clinical manifestations, for what surgery was indicated.
At the same day in the clinic a similar case came, but with no
clinical manifestations and he was complaining of discomfort of
the left shoulder, for what, conservative treatment was advised.
If the disc material is still soft and not
compressing the spinal cord, the clinical picture take
precedence in decision making for operative intervention.
