28-JULY-2013 SALEH WALEED AL-QAWASMEH 26 YEARS EXTRUDED DISC
L5-S1 WITH LEFT S1 ROOT COMPRESSION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 27-July-2013
complaining of LBP for 1 year with exacerbation
last four months with left sciatica down to the
belly of the left foreleg. The condition is
deteriorating despite all conservative measures.
MRI lumbar spine performed 23-June-2013 showing
extruded disc L5-S1 with left S1 root
compression.
On examination: the patient is limping with
mild scoliotic stance. SLRS was 50
degrees with pain left side. There is weak
dorsiflexion left foot 4/5.
Left S1 foraminotomy with
removal of the extrusion lateral to the axilla
of S1 root. Left sided intradiscal cleaning
L5-S1 disc space.
Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. Regression of the
sciatica and the power of the left foot became
normal.
Follow Up
The patient progressed discitis
14-September-2013, for what conservative
treatment plan for 6 months was started.
Comments
The patient still has an estimated postoperative
recurrence around 7%, because the disc space is
not shallow.
