YEARS CAVERNOUS HEMANGIOMA DORSAL SPINAL CORD D11.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 25-May-2003 in
wheelchair for 3 months, unable to walk with
weak right lower limb and loss of sensation of
the left lower limb. Right Brown-Sequard
syndrome was established at the level of D10.
The patient was sent for investigations and MRI
dorsal spine showed a mass behind D11
intramedullary and bright with contrast.
Ependymoma was suspected.
Laminectomy of D11 with
partial of D10 and D12. The dura was opened over
the lesion. The tumor was attacked from the
right side and the brownish mass was resected
and sent for fresh frozen section. The result
was astrocytoma. Practical radical removal of the
tumor was achieved. The final histologic result
was cavernous hemangioma. Routine closure of the
wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
He was sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
The patient came to the
clinic 08-June-2003 with the same condition. He
was advised to undergo physiotherapy.
Comments
The patient has a spinal cord tumor with good
visible margins. Even if it is astrocytoma, an
attempt to remove it is preferable. The final
histologic result was cavernous hemangioma.
