NON-FUNCTION VPS WITH DISTAL PART BLOCK.
Anamnesis
The patient's parents came to the clinic
12-November-2003 telling that their son got
rapid enlargement of the head with vomiting and
drowsiness. VPS was inserted elsewhere at the
first week of his life.
On examination: the distal reservoir is showing
non-function of the abdominal part of the VPS.
He was sent for investigations and the data
ruled out rupture of the construct.
Total removal of the shunt
and replacement with with PS Medical 1st level
performance small delta VPS. The old tunnels
were used to limit the surgical injury to the
tissues.
FOLLOW UP
The patient came to the clinic
23-November-2003 with clean wound
and the fontanel was lax and the level of
consciousness improved without vomiting.
Comments
In case of non-functioning VPS, total
replacement with lower pressure parameters is
preferable.
