34 YEARS UNSTABLE ODONTOID FRACTURE.
Anamnesis
The patient after suffering RTA was admitted to
Al-Zaytooneh hospital 5 days ago, than when the
discovered dislocation of the odontoid was sent
to Shmaisani hospital. MRI and X-ray showing
fracture dislocation of the odontoid. He has
injury to the left facial nerve with loss of
hearing left side.
On examination: The patient has weak muscles of
the face left side. Loss of hearing left side.
Decreased vision left eye. Using collar in bed.
The C1 and C2 were exposed from behind and
Brook's fixation of C1-2 using sublaminar wires
applied.
Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. He was sent to the ward.
Follow Up
The patient came to the clinic 24-December-2002
walking
with clean wound and normal power and sensation
of the right upper limb.
The patient came several times and the last time
29-September-2003 the facial nerve showed
gradual partial recovery
Comments
The procedure is simple, but the wires
are ferromagnetic.
