03-FEBRUARY-2013 WALLA BASHEER AL-DAMMAGH 21 YEARS
PERSISTING SUBCUTANEOUS HEMATOMA AFTER REMOVAL OF THE TRANSPEDICULAR SCREWS.
Anamnesis
The patient was operated by me
22-January-2013 for removal of the
transpedicular screws.
The patient showed persisting
subcutaneous hematoma which was evacuated
several times over the previous 10 days.
The skin incision was opened
and inspection of the wound showed organized
hematoma with capsule. It was extending to the
right lower screw place, which explain the
origin of the hematoma from the still unable to
close right lower bone defect created by the
removed screw. This hole was filled by wax and
tight closure over the muscular layer over the
defect. The other suspected places were
inspected and they showed good healing. Several
layers of muscle were closed water-tightly to
prevent any hematoma formation in the near
postoperative period.
Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
Please! wait for 3-5 min till the
video start to load. It depends upon the internet
connection.
Comments
The hematoma was
originating from the hole of the removed
transpedicular screw. In the future, it is
advisable to fill these holes with was to
prevent such rare but possible complication.
