STILL MALFUNCTIONING VPS.
Anamnesis
The patient was operated by me the second time
for repositioning the ventricular end of the VPS
07-July-2015 and continued to complain of
the same headache and control MRI and CT-scan
confirmed that despite the shunt was in the
ventricular system with sufficient length, but
the hydrocephalus still the same. It seems that
the patient is not responding to the medium
pressure VPS and it was decided to change it to
low pressure brand.
The old reservoir exposed. It
is functioning with clear CSF coming. The
reservoir was removed and the ventricular end
was withdrawn about 8 mm. A low pressure regular
PS Medical reservoir was connected. Routine closure of the
wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery. The patient was
sent to the ward.
Comments
The patient hydrocephalus is not
responding to the medium pressure type, for what low
pressure reservoir was applied.
It is very rare that the patient showed
complete non-response to medium pressure VPS as in this
case.
